Group seeks $1 million to update building

RANTOUL ? Rantoul Economic Development Director Reed Berger has 58,000
square feet of central Rantoul office space available for any interested
business to lease.

But there's a catch.

The building in question is Smith Hall, a two-story former Chanute Air
Force Base classroom facility. In an effort to remove connotations with
its military past, the village of Rantoul recently changed Smith Hall's
name to the Rantoul Corporate Technology Center.

"I think the new name is more appropriate because it is a professional
office building intended to serve data centers, financial offices and
incubators for startup companies," Berger said.
