BRAC asks Air Force, Guard officials for help THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Cape Cod Times (MA) July 30, 2005 The military base closing commission is reaching out to Air Force and National Guard officials to help sort out the Pentagon's proposed restructuring of the Air Guard, including the shutdown of bases and units in Massachusetts and Connecticut. The Base Closure and Realignment Commission will hold a hearing Aug. 11, mainly to explore potential legal problems with the Defense Department's proposal. And in letters to officials this week, the commission said that without input from state adjutants general, the Air Force, and Homeland Security officials, they will not be able to develop a responsible solution. "It is incumbent upon this commission to ensure that the Department of Defense's closure and realignment recommendations, especially those pertaining to the Air National Guard, do not undermine the unique mission responsibilities of the Department of Homeland Security," said BRAC Chairman Anthony Principi in a letter to officials. ...
