Congress approves $3.4M for wildlife refuges By Jon Brodkin Metrowest Daily News (MA) July 30, 2005 Congress approved $3.4 million to make improvements at the Assabet River and Oxbow national wildlife refuges yesterday. ... The Oxbow refuge is at the former Fort Devens military base which closed more than a decade ago. The Assabet refuge, formerly the site of significant U.S. Army contamination, became a wildlife refuge in 2000 after a federally funded cleanup, and was opened to the public this year. ...
