Chesapeake has to deal with encroachment around Fentress Field Reported by: Natasha Barrett WVEC-TV 13 (Hampton Roads, VA) August 25, 2005 Va. Beach isn't the only city trying to meet the demands of the BRAC Commission. Chesapeake also has been told to stop developing land near Fentress Field. The airfield has one 8,000-foot runway equipped to simulate an aircraft carrier flight deck. It sits about seven miles southwest of NAS Oceana and is used by Oceana jets. While the area around Fentress isn?t as densely populated, new homes are being built. So, the city has to prove they can protect the rest of the open land. In the southern part of Chesapeake, you hear construction crews working by day and Navy jets zooming by day and night. ...
