Coast Guard weighs options By KEVIN DENNEHY and ERIC GERSHON Cape Cod Times September 4, 2005 For months Coast Guard officials said they wouldn't be able to afford the operation of Air Station Cape Cod without the help of Otis Air National Guard base - and the $17 million in airfield maintenance the Air Guard pays each year. So now that a federal commission has approved plans to close Otis, Coast Guard officials are looking at their options. And they include leaving Cape Cod. Among the options being considered informally are finding the funds to stay on Otis, transporting the station to Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis, or even to Hanscom Air Force Base, a Coast Guard spokesman said. ...
