New deal: Otis stays By KEVIN DENNEHY Cape Cod Times (MA) September 13, 2005 Otis Air National Guard Base, placed on the Pentagon's chopping block earlier this year, has received a last-minute reprieve from an independent federal commission. The Base Realignment and Closure Commission, in a report sent to President Bush Friday, recommends that Otis instead be "realigned," although the base's F-15 fighter jets will still be moved to Western Massachusetts. The report also affirms that the state National Guard would not lose any jobs as part of the base reshuffle. The challenge for Otis supporters now becomes finding a new military mission for the Upper Cape air base, home to the first pilots to respond on Sept. 11, 2001. ...
