Oceanview homes await cleanup at Fort Ord By Sukhjit Purewal Knight-Ridder Long Beach Press Telegram (CA) September 8, 2005 Along Gen. Jim Moore Boulevard near Seaside sits 350 acres of what is likely the hottest real estate at Fort Ord. Any homes built there would offer exceptional views of the Pacific Ocean. Right now, though, wire fencing encircles the property bordering the multiple range area, the most contaminated portion of the former Army base. It's always been a given that this gold mine would take a long time to be developed. First it has to be cleared of leftover munitions and explosives before it can be transferred to Seaside, a small city just east of Monterey. But it appears the city could get its hands on the property a lot sooner 10 years sooner, according to one estimate, albeit with munitions and explosives still present. ...
