Subject: [CPEO-IRF] Hunters Point artists and radiation
Redevelopment leases radiation-contaminated buildings to Shipyard
artists' colony

It speaks to the desperation of the artists' colony at the Hunters Point
Shipyard that, in the face of displacement, they are willing to occupy
studios leased by the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency to them in
radiation contaminated regions on the former naval base.

I am specifically concerned about the colony of artists occupying
Building 366 on Parcel D of the shipyard. This region is the site of
radiation-contaminated soils and a series of buildings ? the 300 series
? that are undergoing remediation for radiation-contaminated vents,
drains and surfaces. Two years ago the artists were asked to vacate but
were offered no safe, affordable relocation sites on or adjacent to the base.
