Officials voice concern about DoD plan Elizabeth Dorsey Brunswick Times-Record (ME) October 7, 2005 BRUNSWICK - The current round of base closures has barely begun, but already Department of Defense officials have made clear the process will be unlike any used during the four previous base closure rounds, especially regarding the Pentagon's intent to seek fair market value for former base properties. In response to these changes, Brunswick and Topsham town officials this week sent separate letters to Philip Grone, the deputy undersecretary of defense for installations and environment, stating their concerns about that new approach. In previous rounds, the Pentagon allowed communities to take over closed military installations at no cost or at a cost below market value. According to local officials, this allowed the communities to fund infrastructure replacement and spur development. ...
