Port due base land for free 922 acres awarded by House; Senate expected to approve By Fanny S. Chirinos Corpus Christi Caller-Times (TX) December 20, 2005 With rights to 922 acres of Naval Station Ingleside all but assured, the Port of Corpus Christi is looking into acquiring the remaining 155 acres. The next task will be to figure out what to do with the base property - an issue port officials say they haven't considered. The news they received Monday was perhaps the most uplifting development since the Base Realignment and Closure commission recommended closing the base, at a loss of 7,015 jobs. The U.S. House approved a provision Sunday night that forces the Navy to return the base land to the port at no cost. Senate officials all but guaranteed approval in the Senate. ...
