Fort Monmouth delay prompts concernsBY MARYANN SPOTO Newark Star-Ledger December 31, 2005 Mayors of the three towns hosting Fort Monmouth vented their complaints to state legislators yesterday about delays in funding for a committee trying to plan the Army post's redevelopment. The mayors of Eatontown, Tinton Falls and Oceanport met with state Sen. Ellen Karcher and Assemblyman Michael Panter (both D-Monmouth) to outline their concerns about Gov.-elect Jon Corzine's request to the U.S. Department of Defense to hold off on distributing millions of dollars to the Fort Monmouth Reuse Committee. Corzine's office previously said it wanted time to review the composition of the committee. It also contends the committee must be formed by state legislation, not by local consensus as was done in this case. The mayors, however, say the committee is merely a precursor to a more permanent redevelopment authority and therefore does not need legislation. ...
