Council supports effort to reclaim Town Commons Town joins Rep. Stan Gerzofsky's bid to get DoD to return 1,000 acres at no cost. Darcie Moore Brunswick Times Record (ME) July 18, 2006 BRUNSWICK - The Town Council spent a majority of its meeting Monday discussing the redevelopment of the Brunswick Naval Air Station property and the role the town, a local redevelopment authority and a state advisory council play in that process. One of the first actions the council took was to unanimously adopt a resolution supporting an effort led by state Rep. Stan Gerzofsky, D-Brunswick, to have the Department of Defense return 1,000 acres to the town at no cost to restore the Town Commons to the size it was before the base opened in the 1940s. Councilor Jacqueline Sartoris pointed out that the town is requesting property that Brunswick had sold to the federal government because it had no choice in the 1940s, but that Brunswick's connection to the property extends more than two centuries, "before there was a United States of America." ...
