Camp Parks has polluted historyALAN ELIAS Contra Costa Times (CA) July 20, 2006 ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP - Efforts continue to slowly but steadily move forward progress toward the eventual transfer of some land on the Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (Camp Parks) over to the city and developers for a mixed-use development. Among the next steps are the final planning and implementation of an environmental clean-up of Parks RFTA land that, over the years, had been contaminated by the Armed Forces owners. According to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, among the "22 areas of concern" are an arsenic drum disposal pit with about 6 to 7 truckloads of pesticide-contaminated soil, a former incinerator, underground storage tanks, a landfill and fuel spills. In addition to pesticides, the environmental clean-up crews will have to contend with PCBs, fuel solvents, metals and radiological and medical waste that were buried or spilled onto the land. ...
