Opponents of Camp Bonneville sound off
The next child to venture into Camp Bonneville will almost certainly be blasted into bits. The next person to punch a well nearby will almost certainly pump contaminated water. To hear opponents of the transfer of the camp to county ownership talk, the former military facility is a thin layer of dirt and ferns over enough live munitions to refight World War II. Its groundwater is a festering plume of pollution with designs on leaking outside the park's boundaries. And a walk in the hoped-for park, regardless of how many millions are spent on hunting down bombs, rockets and grenades, will never be any safer than a combat patrol. The only suitable use for Camp Bonneville, according to one recent scheme, is for people who are already dead. ...
