DZI makes offer on Texas plant

Day and Zimmermann Inc. has made an offer to the Army to buy the Lone 
Star Army Ammunition Plant in Texarkana, Texas, for $23.5 million.

The offer was made because DZI officials believe it is the best option 
to allow the company to continue operations at the Texas facility in the 
wake of the base being closed because of a recommendation by the Base 
Realignment and Closure Commission. Congress will have the final say on 
what bases and plants are closed.

Mike Yoh, executive vice president for DZI's munitions division, said in 
a phone interview from Philadelphia that the move does not affect 
operations at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant.
