Springfield's GSA site still being looked atBy Jason Jacks Fairfax County Times (VA) August 31, 2006 Military construction on the General Services Administration's 70-acre parcel near downtown Springfield is still a possibility, according to U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-11th). During a recent interview with Times editors and reporters and in statements made during a regional hearing Thursday in Springfield, Davis, said he has spoken with military planners about moving some of Fort Belvoir's future 22,000 additional workers onto the GSA property. Davis chairs the House Government Reform Committee, which has jurisdiction over GSA. Earlier this summer, Army officials, much to the consternation of local leaders, announced 18,000 of those 22,000 workers would work in offices on the Engineer Proving Ground, with the remainder on the main post. County leaders wanted the military to disperse the workers-who are heading to southwest Fairfax County as part of the Base Realignment and Closure changes-among as many as four sites, including the GSA property. ...
