Army Vows to Move Ahead on Fairfax Pkwy. Disagreements With Va. Had Put Project on Hold By Bill Turque Washington Post August 31, 2006 A top U.S. Army official pledged today that the Fairfax County Parkway would be completed near Fort Belvoir before thousands of new workers arrive in 2011 as part of the Defense Department's base realignment and closure plan. Completion of the 35-mile parkway, which connects Route 7 in northern Fairfax County to Route 1 in the southeast section, has been in limbo because of disagreements between the Army and the state of Virginia. "I'm confident that wise people can get together and figure how to do this," Keith E. Eastin, assistant secretary of the army for installations and environment, told a hearing of the House Committee on Governmental Reform at Rolling Valley Elementary School in Springfield. ...
