Topsham BNAS tax break vote stymiedDarcie Moore Brunswick Times Record September 12, 2006 TOPSHAM - What has been promoted as a no-downside decision for Mid-coast communities with a chance to participate in a new state program to create jobs before Brunswick Naval Air Station closes met with objections from two Topsham selectmen on Thursday. By a 2-2 vote, Selectwoman Jane Scease's motion failed to put an article on the Sept. 27 town meeting warrant to seek residents' approval for Topsham to participate in the Military Redevelopment Zone program. The state will grant tax breaks to businesses that locate and create jobs in the special zone, which totals 500 acres in communities most likely to be affected by the BNAS closure in 2011. ...
