Hope alive after project falls apart Groundwork has been laid for successful Alameda Point development, officials say By Kelly Rayburn Inside Bay Area/Oakland Tribune (CA) September 23, 2006 ALAMEDA - City officials and a development group that included Shea and Centex Homes spent five years and millions of dollars working to come to an agreement among themselves and the U.S. Navy to rebuild Alameda's old Naval Air Station. This week, those efforts fell apart. Yet, a general consensus among many city leaders is that while the withdrawal of the development group — Alameda Point Community Partners — was a setback, hope is not lost for the future of Alameda Point. Much of the groundwork is already laid for successful development, they say. "We're not altogether in base-conversion purgatory," said City Councilman Tony Daysog. ...
