Closing facility sparks interest

WORCESTER - Three community groups, Worcester township and the Methacton School District are all interested in reusing the 19-acre North Penn U.S. Army Reserve Center at Berks and Bean roads.

The facility must be vacated by September 2011, to comply with regulations of the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990.
A group of 22 officials, community group representatives and five Worcester residents were given an extensive tour of the former Nike missile base Wednesday morning by U.S. Army Staff Sgt. John Adams, base closing consultant Harold Miller, Worcester project manager Susan G. Caughlan and Liz Gabor, Secretary of Defense project manager, Office of Economic Adjustment.


Community groups must prove their use would benefit the overall community to have an opportunity to get the property at no cost, Caughlan said.
