Port picks planning panel for Ingleside Goal is to decide what to do after Navy leaves By Fanny S. Chirinos Corpus Christi Caller-Times (TX) January 11, 2006 The port commission assembled a panel of elected and business leaders from two counties to help decide how to redevelop Naval Station Ingleside after the Navy leaves. The port's action Tuesday did not end a dispute over the Nueces County Commissioners Court's quest to be declared the local redevelopment authority for the base. A local redevelopment authority, or LRA, would be a gatekeeper for potentially millions of dollars in federal funding for planning and other base-redevelopment functions. Port and San Patricio County officials have said there's no need for Nueces County to pursue LRA status because the port has reversionary rights to most of the base land. Port Commissioner Kenneth Berry was absent. The committee appointed by the port Tuesday includes the county judges from both counties and other key officials. The group, named the Coastal Bend Redevelopment Planning Committee, and its 11-member executive council are the first of many steps in the long process that began when the decision to close the base became final Nov. 8, said Greg Brubek, the port's deputy director of engineering. ...
