School chiefs plan funds strategy How to deal with military growth focus of meeting BY HARRY FRANKLIN Columbus Ledger-Enquirer (GA) January 27, 2006 Superintendents who expect additional students from growth at nearby military installations spent the day Thursday in Atlanta developing strategy on how to pursue federal funds to help meet facility needs. "It was a great meeting," said Muscogee County School District Deputy Superintendent Robin Pennock. "The next step will be to work with some congressmen and staffers in Washington, D.C., to actually write language that will become the vehicle for this. That will probably occur in early to mid-February." About 25 people, including two representatives from the U.S. Department of Defense and Gov. Sonny Perdue's military adviser, gathered at an Atlanta hotel for a meeting of the newly formed Seven Rivers Coalition. School officials attended from districts near Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Carson, Colo.; Fort Riley, Kan.; Fort Lee, Va.; Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; Little Rock, Ark., Air Force Base; four from the Muscogee district, including Superintendent John Phillips; and the Fort Benning Futures Partnership. ...
