Soil removal plan available to public Ground at University Villages development site laced with lead-based paint from Fort Ord buildings By LARRY PARSONS Montery Herald (CA) March 23, 2006 A plan to clean up lead-contaminated soil from the 290-acre University Villages development site in Marina has been unveiled for public review. The state Department of Toxic Substances Control and Marina Community Partners, developers of the residential-commercial project on Fort Ord, are seeking public comment on the proposal through April 22. Thousands of tons of soil are laced with flakes of lead-based paint that have peeled off hundreds of old Army barracks and other buildings on the former military post. The cleanup needs to be completed before residential and commercial development can go forward. ...
