Cardenas The Detroit News April 5, 2006 CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP -- A large tract of land in the heart of Chesterfield Township that is home to hundreds of military housing units may become parkland and the site of a new library in coming years. The Sebille Manor site is part of the Selfridge Air National Guard Base U.S. Army Garrison that was closed last year by the federal Base Closure and Realignment Commission. For more than 50 years, military personnel from Selfridge and all the armed forces who work in Metro Detroit and Port Huron lived in the one-story, Cold War-era housing. But with the anticipated closure by as early December 2006, residents are moving out and community leaders are preparing to change the property from federal to local government use. ...
