Army no longer is interested in land at NS Ingleside; Indians must wait

The Army has withdrawn its interest in 15 acres at Naval Station 
Ingleside and an Indian tribe that expressed interest in surplus 
equipment must wait in line behind the local group in charge of base 
redevelopment.

In February, the Army expressed interest in the property in a letter to 
the Navy's BRAC office. A second, more detailed letter of interest was 
not sent to the office by the March 23 deadline, said Jill Votaw, 
spokeswoman for the office. Not following up with the second letter is 
tantamount to withdrawing, she said.

A Navy Notice of Availability on bases closed or realigned by the 2005 
Base and Realignment Commission was sent to federal and Defense 
Department agencies.
