Panel pushes for early release of BNAS land

BRUNSWICK — With Brunswick Naval Air Station slated to close in five years, the town is pushing for short-term economic development to offset anticipated job losses.

While there seems to be little dispute that this goal is worth pursuing, the question of how best to create new jobs and business opportunities has proved far more difficult to answer.

Right now, the task of finding a solution rests in the hands of the town's Comprehensive Plan Update Committee, which is working to revise the town's 1993 plan.
