Tribe has early look at getting base landBy SEAN GONSALVES Cape Cod Times April 19, 2006 MASHPEE - Wampanoag leaders are eyeing the Massachusetts Military Reservation for potential tribal lands should the tribe receive federal recognition next year. As the Mashpee Wampanoag prepare for what could be a new relationship with the federal government, tribal leaders "are trying to think ahead to meet the needs of the tribe," Tribal Council spokesman Scott Ferson said yesterday. While no specific amount of land has been targeted, he said, some of the thousands of acres of undeveloped base land could benefit the tribe. "Right now, the biggest concern is housing.
