DoD to Host Community Conference on BRAC

Department of Defense (DoD) officials will host representatives of the 
military services, federal agencies, and various state and local 
officials at the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD)/Military 
Services/Community Responding to BRAC 05 Conference from May 2-5, 2006, 
in Atlanta, Ga.

The event, being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, will provide an 
opportunity for communities to meet with DoD officials and 
representatives of the military services and federal agencies, to 
discuss the effects of repositioning, reshaping and sustaining military 
infrastructure, which arose from the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure 
(BRAC 05) process.  Almost 1,000 people are expected to attend.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network with like-affected states 
and communities, gain knowledge about the types of assistance available 
to them, and work with military and other federal officials to begin the 
important partnering process that is vital to the success of any 
adjustment effort.

Key DoD representatives, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for 
Installations and Environment Philip W. Grone and Director of the Office 
of Economic Adjustment Patrick J. O’Brien, will hold a media 
availability on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at 10:35 a.m. EDT, in the media
