Stakeholders celebrate Badger property's futureBy Brian Bridgeford Baraboo News Republic (WI) May 1, 2006 TOWN OF SUMPTER — Federal officials hope to give new owners titles to 3,000 acres of land at the obsolete Badger Army Ammunition Plant by September, a plant manager said Saturday. And work to clean up contamination by asbestos, lead and explosive chemicals on the site will continue until the area is cleared. More than a dozen stakeholders � including federal property managers, town of Sumpter officials, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources officials and Ho-Chunk Nation representatives — gathered at the plant for a meeting of the Badger Intergovernmental Group. The group is working to determine how land at the 7,300-acre site will be distributed to other users and released from federal ownership. ...
