SPIRES Huntsville Times (AL) May 7, 2006 Now that Redstone Arsenal and North Alabama are clear winners in the battle over military work doled out in the 2005 BRAC round, the real work begins, local officials say. The new challenge is paying for schools, roads and new construction to provide a place for the thousands of defense workers scheduled to move to North Alabama before 2011, local leaders say. The Base Realignment and Closure Commission decisions made last year led to Pentagon plans that will move three Army headquarters, a majority of America's missile defense work, a recruiting brigade and major helicopter work to Redstone. These moves will result in an estimated 4,700 new jobs on the arsenal and perhaps 5,000 more contractors who may follow the commands. ...
