Industrial park proposal ignites debate over sprawl in West Brunswick zone Comprehensive Plan Committee to review proposed revisions Tuesday night. Christopher Cousins Brunswick Times Record (ME) May 8, 2006 BRUNSWICK — Individual property rights are at the center of a debate swirling around revisions to the town's comprehensive plan. One of those proposed revisions could open the door for a new industrial park in a rural part of town. On one side of the debate are people like Bill Moore, who owns a parcel of wooded property wedged between Old Portland Road and Durham Road in western Brunswick. Moore's property, along with two smaller parcels owned by others, is under consideration for a new business park. On another side of the debate are several people who live and own land near Moore's property, such as Joanne Troy and Nat Wheelwright. When they purchased their homes, they did so with the expectation that the land nearby was zoned "mixed-use 5," which puts limits on what types of commercial development could be built. The town is interested in changing the zoning to "Industry 6," which, to the distress of the homeowners, would allow different uses. ...
