Officials: Feds passing up Navy SchoolBy Todd DeFeo Athens Banner-Herald (GA) May 9, 2006 No federal agencies have shown interest in a 58-acre tract on Prince Avenue, home of the soon-to-close Navy Supply Corps School, opening the door for a joint venture between the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia on the Normaltown site. Though the Navy officially could announce as early as today if any federal agencies are interested in the Navy School site, the chairman of the local redevelopment authority and the deputy director of the state's committee formed to battle the Base Realignment and Closure process say there is no federal interest in the site. "There were some rumors of some possible federal users," said Buddy Allen, chairman of the Athens-Clarke County Navy Supply Corps School Local Redevelopment Authority, a group that will help decide how to reuse the land. "But apparently they did not come forward. No one has actually filed a completed application as of last week." ...
