Pallone, Holt to feds: Focus on jobs, not land Two legislators ask feds to help create jobs, not more homes BY SUE MORGAN Red Bank Hub (NJ) May 18, 2006 EATONTOWN - The Pentagon might be seeing dollar signs when it considers selling off Fort Monmouth's land, but two area lawmakers are trying to redirect that vision. U.S. Congressmen Frank Pallone (D-6) and Rush Holt (D-12) are urging the Defense Department to keep economics, not profit from land sales, in the forefront, when turning the fort's 1,126 acres over to the local jurisdictions. In a letter dated May 11 to Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army Joseph W. Whitaker, Pallone and Holt asked the Defense Department to make creating new local jobs and promoting economic development a priority before the government moves ahead with selling off the federally owned property. ...
