Coast contracting alive and well Government, defense ideas on fast track By MIKE KELLER Biloxi Sun Herald (MS) May 15, 2006 Defense and government contracting recommendations made in the Governor's Commission on Recovery, Rebuilding and Renewal report have mainly been accepted and achieved, according to the committee's chairman. "I'm very pleased with the way the recommendations have found their way into law," said committee chairman Jerry St. Pé. The report, published at the end of last year, focused on three major elements to revive the $6 billion industry, a majority of whose work is centered along the Gulf Coast. ... The second element of the report focused on military installation closures scheduled for Mississippi. The committee recommended the installations - Naval Station Pascagoula and the Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant at Stennis - be shut down quickly and either reused by other federal agencies or given over to the state. ...
