Bracing for the boom Thousands of military jobs coming -- will Santa Rosa be ready?
Santa Rosa County could see the largest influx of people in its history in the next decade, thanks in part to the realignment of military operations from throughout the nation to neighboring Eglin Air Force Base. By some estimates, the expansion will bring hundreds of jobs and as many as 20,000 new military personnel, contractors, service workers and their families to the sprawling base and surrounding communities. That translates to almost $500 million a year for local economies, according to a study done last year by University of West Florida economists. ...
