Navy school again potential site for veterans clinic VA interest resurfaces By Blake Aued Athens Banner Herald (GA) June 24, 2006 The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs once again is interested in opening a clinic at the U.S. Naval Supply Corps School. Efforts to build a clinic for veterans in Athens, stalled since 2004, have restarted, and the VA is again eyeing the Navy school as a site after twice abandoning plans to open a clinic there, according to U.S. Rep. Charlie Norwood, R-Augusta. The VA wants to take over the Navy school's medical and dental clinics, and possibly other buildings, when the school closes in 2010, Norwood's spokesman John Stone said Friday. If the VA wants part of the school, it will have to come to the Navy School Local Redevelopment Authority, a 16-member board that will decide next year what to do with the campus once the school moves to Rhode Island. ...
