'Been there, done that, don't do it'Darcie Moore Brunswick Times Record (ME) June 23, 2006 'Experts' share insights on past base closures BRUNSWICK - Like the P-3 Orion crews that will be honing their flight skills at Brunswick Naval Air Station until the base closes in 2011, the local officials and others invited to Gov. John Baldacci's Thursday summit on the base closure process were told that their fate depends on taking the right "approach." Sitting at cloth-draped tables in Thorne Hall at Bowdoin College, the audience listened to federal agency experts and other speakers offer insights based on having gone through former base closures of their own. These "experts" came with Power Point presentations to lay out the details of a process that most of the audience - made up primarily of state and local officials - had already heard about at previous conferences on the topic. ...
