Students share viewsRachel Ganong Brunswick Times Record (ME) October 2, 2006 BRUNSWICK - Brunswick High School students took a rare opportunity to plan their future Friday afternoon. But rather than working on college applications or scholarship essays, they focused on the future of their jobs, homes and recreation - in a phrase, their community. A total of 45 students participated in a day-long planning session for reusing the land now occupied by Brunswick Naval Air Station, which is scheduled to close in 2011. The all-day planning event, organized by Brunswick High School service learning coordinator Rick Wilson and the Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority, began with an 8 a.m. tour of the base, followed by hours of planning its potential reuse after the Navy vacates it at about the time when these same students or others their age will be starting their careers and families. ...
