Superfund site to be de-listedBy Jillian Fennimore Watertown TAB & Press (MA) October 6, 2006 With a history of close to 200 years, the Army Materials Technology Laboratory Site has long caused concerns of its environmental impact and health hazards due to the Army's former use of the site. Pesticides, metals and volatile organics were among some of the many contaminants found on the site in the past. The site was placed on the National Priorities List in 1994 due to surface water and soil contamination, and Superfund investigations followed, working to clean the site marked by the federal government's program as one of the nation's uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. But a proposal from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to remove the final portion of the 48-acre site - within an 11-acre parcel of the Charles River near North Beacon Street - from the EPA National Priorities List after 12 years of contamination concerns and cleanup standards. ...
