Army wants more land at depot: 235 acres was to be returned for business
use after '95 BRACBy Jim Hook Chambersburg Public Opinion (PA) October 11, 2006 A decade after the 1995 base closure commission ordered Letterkenny Army Depot to give up more than 1,000 acres, the Army wants some of its land back. Col. Robert Swenson, Letterkenny commander, has asked the Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority to give up its claim to about 235 acres of former Army land. The land represents security to the Army and cash to the public authority building a business park: - The Army wants to build a secure and permanent home for Letterkenny headquarters and computer operations. The construction would require tens of millions of federal dollars, as yet not appropriated. - LIDA is developing the Cumberland Valley Business Park on the former Army land. Land sales finance utility improvements and new road construction. The 235 acres are worth $4.7 million to $8.2 million. ...
