Group seeks to delay airbase construction

A group of residents is seeking an injunction to prevent the 
redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station from 
beginning until an in depth environmental review of the site is done and 
approved by voters in Weymouth, Abington, and Rockland.

Plaintiffs seeking the injunction, in addition to Dominic Galluzzo, 
president of the East Weymouth Neighborhood Association, include Steven 
Ames, Robert A. Casimiro, Michele Cronin, Anne Hilbert, Robert Loring, 
Trish Pries, Joanne Rakers, Barbara Scannell, and Peter Scannell.

The plaintiffs were scheduled to state their case in Norfolk County 
Superior Court a few hours after the News went to press on Tuesday.

"This injunction is not being done to obstruct development of the base, 
but to be sure this project does not negatively impact us 15 years from 
now," Galluzzo said during a Friday interview. "This project should not 
be done at the expense of our health. Until there is full disclosure, 
this project should not go forward. We are asking for what is morally 
right."
