More land transfers coming up at CAAP siteBy Tracy Overstreet Grand Island Independent October 23, 2006 More Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant land could be privately owned by the first of the year -- with American Ethanol already installing a water well for the future construction of its plant Hall County board Chairman Jim Eriksen said an Oct. 6 letter from Randal Petersen, the chief of the environmental remediation branch of the Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha office, revealed a "moving forward" to get the remaining government-owned land back into private ownership. The once-20-square-mile plant west of Grand Island had been partially sold in a series of public auctions in recent years. The bulk of the remaining land has been designated to particular buyers for specific purposes, such as industrial parks or flood control. ...
