More land transfers coming up at CAAP site

More Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant land could be privately owned by the first of the year -- with American Ethanol already installing a water well for the future construction of its plant

Hall County board Chairman Jim Eriksen said an Oct. 6 letter from Randal Petersen, the chief of the environmental remediation branch of the Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha office, revealed a "moving forward" to get the remaining government-owned land back into private ownership.

The once-20-square-mile plant west of Grand Island had been partially sold in a series of public auctions in recent years. The bulk of the remaining land has been designated to particular buyers for specific purposes, such as industrial parks or flood control.
