4,500 jobs planned at former fortBy Jim Hook Chambersburg Public Opinion (MD) October 24, 2006 Bulldozers tore into an old barracks at Fort Ritchie as officials on Monday celebrated the sale of the former Army base to a Maryland developer. Infrastructure improvements will begin in spring and businesses will begin arriving next year, according to Randall M. Griffin, president and CEO of Corporate Office Properties Trust, based in Columbia, Md. COPT plans for at least 4,500 jobs and a surrounding residential community: - Government agencies will relocate from the Washington, D.C., area. - Employees will live nearby and be able to walk to work. - Fort Ritchie will be developed over 10 to 15 years. COPT purchased the 591-acre installation on Oct. 5 from PenMar Development Corp. for $5 million. ...
