City of McGregor sails into new waters with Navy deeding of landBy Mike Copeland Waco Tribune-Herald (TX) October 31, 2006 McGREGOR - Mayor James Hering eyed the deed transferring 9,700 acres from the U.S. Navy to this city 15 miles west of Waco and quipped, "I'm sure a good lawyer has looked this over." Indeed, many people have looked it over, making Monday's festivities in McGregor possible - and historic. For the first time, a U.S. Naval site in the United States has been given the "ready to reuse" designation. That means industrial or commercial buildings can go up on the land, or it can be put to agricultural use. ...
