depot acreageBy Jim Hook Chambersburg Public Opinion November 1, 2006 Letterkenny Army Depot officials want quick approval from the Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority to put 235 acres in the Army's hands. ... The 1995 base closure commission took land away from Letterkenny and transferred missions to other installations. ... Letterkenny commander Col. Robert Swenson in an Oct. 20 letter to LIDA board members withdrew Letterkenny's request to lease the 235 acres. He asked LIDA to vote on Monday to allow the Army to retain ownership of the land. "In a lease arrangement any development on the 235 acres is subject to municipal, county and state approvals," Ross said. "While it is likely that all such approvals could be secured, it can add significantly to the time and cost of projects.
