Navy may not give Concord Naval Weapons Station to cityBy Tanya Rose CONTRA COSTA TIMES (CA) November 14, 2006 CONCORD - Concord officials learned today that the U.S. Navy, which had promised to let the city plan future uses on the 5,100-acre Concord Naval Weapons Station, is considering selling the entire chunk of land to Shaw Environmental, according to a letter delivered to Concord City Hall on Monday. If that happens, city officials fear Concord residents and leaders would not have a say in how the land is developed -- the bids were supposed to come at the end of a multi-phase process, and only if that's how the Navy decided to dispose of the land. If this sale goes through, it would circumvent the entire planning process, said Concord City Manager Lydia Du Borg. "The Department of the Navy received an unsolicited proposal from an entity interested in acquiring the inland area of the former Naval Weapons Station . . . in exchange for . . . construction services," the letter said. ...
