BLRA frustrated over lack of base cleanup informationSeth Koenig Brunswick Times Record (ME) November 20, 2006 BRUNSWICK - Some members of the Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority say they're frustrated that they're not being provided enough information about the environmental status of the Brunswick Naval Air Station to develop a master reuse plan. Local Navy officials, though, say the LRA has all the information that the military has on the subject and that their base is being held to exceedingly high national cleanup standards that are accommodating for redevelopment - but that the redevelopment plan must also be reasonable considering the environmental landscape. The LRA is charged with coming up with a plan to govern the redevelopment of the base once the Navy leaves in 2011. The Navy is currently pressing forward with a sweeping environmental evaluation and cleanup of the 3,200-acre air station, which has cost approximately $65 million and will eat up at least another $20 million before all is said and done. ...
