Work in Progress: BRAC process moves ahead one step at a timeBy Aaron Brand Texarkana Gazette (TX) November 26, 2006 Its final shape is years away, but the future Red River Army Depot is evolving as the wheels of the base closure and realignment process inch forward gear by gear. Boyd Sartin, BRAC program manager at RRAD, said between movement of Patriot missile work and disestablishing Red River Munitions Center, it appears about 240 jobs will be affected. Last year, when the BRAC Commission announced its recommendations, officials put the estimate at 350 jobs to be lost at RRAD due to the Base Realignment and Closure laws. But Sartin said that analysis involved base personnel who will move on to support other assets at the depot. "I think there will be a fairly good number of personnel transfers," said Sartin, adding the depot will adapt its recruiting process to also look for workers who are willing to relocate. Some workers will retire, he said, but he hopes there are a cadre of well-trained workers to carry out the mission. ...
