Virginia gives funds to help areas cope with BRAC by Joe Coombs Washington Business Journal (DC) January 8, 2007Three Northern Virginia governments will receive state assistance connected to pending moves resulting from the federal base realignment and closure process, which will shift tens of thousands of military jobs around Greater Washington. Arlington and Alexandria, which stand to lose up to 25,000 jobs combined from BRAC decisions, will receive $420,000 as their share of several grants issued Monday by the Virginia National Defense Industrial Authority. The relocation of several branches of defense operations will move up to 18,000 jobs out of Arlington, the bulk of them in Crystal City and on the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor, and nearly 7,000 jobs out of Alexandria at various locations. ...
