Developers all aglow at Alameda Point Officials pleasantly surprised by strong interest in base land By Kelly Rayburn Inside Bay Area/Oakland Tribune (CA) January 14,2007ALAMEDA - When a high-powered development group walked away from a plan to build homes and shops on Alameda Point in September, some people didn't have much hope that many others would be interested in doing a similar project. The challenges at Alameda Point, the former U.S. Navy Air Station, seemed daunting. With a softening housing market, some wondered whether the $108.5 million price tag from the Navy, which still owns the land, was too high. ...Five companies or partnerships are competing for rights to the former base after responding in December to a request from the city that those interested detail their qualifications for a project such as Alameda Point. ...
